London Wetland Centre

Escape to this wildlife oasis, perfect for all the family!

Overview

Visit The London Wetland Centre, an urban oasis for wildlife and people, just 10 minutes from Hammersmith.  Stroll among the lakes, ponds and gardens. The Wetland Centre Café is perfect for relaxing, and kids will love the play areas. After your visit, explore the lovely suburb of Barnes where the Wetland Centre is located.

Highlights

The Wetland Centre in London attracts thousands of wild birds to the lakes, ponds, meadows and reedbeds that make up the nature reserve.

Visitors can explore  the natural environment and observe the numerous resident and itinerant inhabitants from purpose-built, camouflaged hides.  Otter feeds are available and there are wonderful opportunities to view colourful water birds from around the world.

Younger visitors will also love to explore the play zones.

A circuit around the London Wetland Centre should take a couple of hours, and a well-earned break can be taken in the on-site cafe, serving lunches and drinks.

Whatever the weather, a day out at the Wetland Centre will long live in the memory as one of the best experiences of London that no nature-lover could ever miss.

  • Join wardens as they feed the beautiful water birds from around the globe at 3pm – runs daily
  • Otter feeding times 11am and 2pm – runs daily
  • Join some of the daily Spotlight talks to discover more about the history of the Centre and the animals that live here.

Until 18 November, the London Wetland Centre is home to an exciting selection of giant LEGO animal sculptures. Returning favourites include a North American river otter, a nene (the world’s rarest goose), a giant kingfisher and a frog, who are joined by new friends Sam the short-eared owl, Walter the water vole and Skye the stork! Each sculpture was painstakingly built with tens of thousands on Lego bricks, Sam for example took an amazing 80 hours to build with an incredible 37,884 LEGO bricks. Every weekend, a LEGO workshop takes place, a fantastic experience for young and old! Please contact the Wetland Centre directly to book one of these.
