Visit the Museum of Arts and Design in New York! Since its inception in 1956, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City has served as a platform for skilled makers across a variety of disciplines.
Its exhibitions and programs explore areas as diverse as furniture, industrial design, fashion, graphics, perfume and much more. The Museum of Arts and Design investigates the relationship of the Arts to contemporary influences of industry, emerging technologies, local and artistic traditions, and globalization.
As an institution, MAD celebrates the designer as an important driver for 21st century innovation, and fosters respect for skilled making and production as an engine of creativity across a variety of sectors.
The Museum’s permanent collection is global in scope and includes art, craft, and design from 1950 to the present day. Works by contemporary makers are added to the permanent collection on an ongoing basis.

Sanctuary consists of 50 works of mixed-media collage, assemblage on wood panels, and sculpture presented in an installation designed by the artist that re imagine safe destinations for the black American traveler during the mid-twentieth century.
For her MAD Process Lab exhibition, Riley follows the transformation of sand, limestone, oyster shells, and recycled beer bottles as part of her ongoing examination of two pervasive and anthropocentric substances: glass and cement.
