Hidden in the heart of London, Chelsea Physic Garden is both a centre for learning and a peaceful oasis in the city.
Founded by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London in 1673, the Chelsea Physic Garden allowed apprentices to study the medicinal qualities of plants, and it became one of the most important centres of plant and botany exchange in the world by the 18th century.
As the second oldest botanic garden in England, the Chelsea Physic Garden is home to some of Europe’s oldest rockery, the Garden of Edible & Useful Plants, Victorian Cool Fernery, the World Woodland Garden and the Garden of Medicinal Plants.
Be sure to take a free guided or audio tour!
The step-free access to Chelsea Physic Garden is through the Foyer at 66 Royal Hospital Road.
Car park and disabled access: There is a non-reservable disabled parking bay outside 66 Royal Hospital Road with dropped curb access to the pavement. We have a wheelchair for visitors at the Garden; please ring to book.
