This is perfect for a fun-packed day trip that will ensure the kids sleep in the car on the way home. The zoo boasts more than 8,000 live animals and a current display of some that have been dead for millions of years called Dinosaurs Bite Back. This comprises 19 life-like robotic dinosaurs and an adventure trail that’ll take you back in time. So whether you want an interactive zoo experience or you’re more interested in the past than the present, Chester Zoo has a treat in store for you.

Edinburgh Dungeon

What better way to find thrills this half-term than at the Edinburgh Dungeon? Renowned for its authentic dungeon experience, this torturous tour offers a glimpse into the horrors of being a prisoner during 500 years of Edinburgh’s most gory past. The 11 live actor shows really bring the dungeon to life, not only that but its rides take you on a journey through history that is educational and exciting. So if you’re in for a fright and the chance to learn some of Edinburgh’s darkest secrets, this is the perfect trip.

White Scar Cave, Yorkshire Dales National Park

If you want to get out and about this half term and see things from a different point of view, White Scar Cave in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales is a fantastic place to spend the day. Discovered by Cambridge student Christopher Long in 1923, the cave is now the longest show cave in Britain and its limestone deposits are up to 350million years old. The colourful history of the cave is a treat for enthusiasts and amateurs alike. Some visitors have immersed themselves in the White Scar experience more than others, with a wedding having taken place in an area of the cave known as Battlefield Cavern.
