This year the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta celebrates its 35th anniversary. Being the largest balloon festival in Europe, it’s a show not to be missed this summer. Taking place from 8th to 11th of August, this amazing and colourful outdoor celebration hosts some 150 hot air balloons which will take off into the sky several times a day. Having originated as a meeting for balloonists, this fascinating festival accommodates about 500,000 spectators over a course of four days.
The great news is that Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is absolutely free and provides an array of fun activities for everyone. Throughout the day various bands will entertain visitors with all sorts of music from romantic to quirky to upbeat or jazzy – you choose. New to the Balloon Fiesta, there will be the Dance Stage, where dancing clubs and local schools will perform different styles to engage the public. Arts and crafts stalls will be there too.
The programme of the Fiesta includes early Morning Mass Balloon Ascents (6am take off), which you can enjoy while having an aromatic cuppa and a hearty breakfast roll. Otherwise, there are Evening Ascents at 6pm for those who prefer to take their mornings easy. This could be combined with a couple of freshly baked scones and a cup of tea. Nightglows are the most beautiful and unforgettable part of the whole event. Don’t miss this stunning show of lit up balloons on Thursday and Saturday nights.
And if watching the balloons is not enough for you, there’s a fantastic opportunity to shake your adrenaline levels and embrace on a hot air balloon ride. Skillful pilots from several Balloon Operators will ensure a once in a lifetime experience. You can also participate in ballooning competitions to add some fun to your day.
The Committee of the Balloon Fiesta make it very easy to get there and there’ll be the Fiesta’s very own campsite for those wanting to stay on site throughout the whole festival.
