And then there was the grimy vault that was York Prison, where the highwayman and all-round psychopath Dick Turpin spent his last hours before the hangman’s noose ended his reign of terror. Indeed, there’s a judge on hand to mete out sentences to anyone straying from the right course in this most thrilling of all York tourist attractions, and just when you thought daylight was upon you, there are ghoulish tales of England’s most haunted city to send you on your way.

Consequently, York Dungeons is not recommended for young children and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone who hates things that go bump in the night has been warned!
