They boast an award-winning audio-visual experience as well as more traditional displays of some of the sumptuous silk costumes and textiles that put Macc on the world map in the rag trade of the 19th Century.

Indeed, not far from the silk museum Macclesfield Heritage Centre Galleries are the sister Park Lane Galleries, housed near the Paradise Mill.

These focus on the properties of the fabric, cloth work and the town’s role in the textile industry. Visitors can take a free guided tour of Paradise Mill, with its 26 handlooms and see how workers laboured in t’ut Mill, as expert guides bring the Victorian workplace to life in typically Northern tongue-in-cheek fashion.
