The SeaLife Sanctuary Oban is located in the forests of Loch Creran, Scotland and it was first used as a research centre mainly focused on caring and conserving the Common Seal in 1980. Since then it has developed into both a scientific centre as well as a top family attraction.
Enjoy an array of aquarium displays, depicting everything from dazzling fish, to shrimps, starfish and stingrays. You can also use this great family day out attraction as an educational opportunity and learn all there is to know about the rescue and rehabilitation programme for seals, as well as meeting some of the centre’s most popular rescued seal pups. Learn the intricate process of ensuring orphaned, ill or traumatised seals are safely released back into the wild and meet the centre’s permanent resident seals Lora and Brendan.
The SeaLife Oban Sanctuary also offers its visitors the chance to observe in clear water, more than 30 species of underwater creatures, ranging from octopus and sharks to shrimps and starfish. Enjoy coming face to face with the centre’s more than friendly stingrays as well as getting dazzled by a shoal of salmon from the very unique shoaling ring.
Use this day out attraction for an educational experience and enjoy talks about the lives of these wonderful creatures or simply join the feeding sessions where you can see the underworld fighting for its turn at tea time. You can also enjoy talks on SOS Seal Rescue programmes as well as adopt any of the seals that you think are cute and SeaLife Oban Sanctuary will make sure you are regularly informed about their progress.
